Von Dutch Custom Motorcycles – Choppers
Choppers first began to appear in the 1940s, when soldiers returned from World War II. The veterans had seen lighter, faster bikes in Europe and decided to create their own versions by “chopping” commercial bikes down to the essential elements. The film Easy Rider thrust choppers into the limelight in 1969 and started a craze that hasn’t abated since.
In the 1940s, at the same time as choppers were beginning to be built, Kenny “Von Dutch” Howard revived the practice of pinstriping motorcycles and cars. Although a mechanic at heart, Von Dutch started experimenting with pinstriping in his spare time and the art form was reborn. As word of his work grew, customers traveled from around the country to have their vehicles “Von Dutched.”
Von Dutch motorcycles, which take on the name and legacy of the most famous architect of custom choppers, consider freedom, sex, power, style, and motion to be their mantra.
