The artistry of Von
Dutch motorcycles has attracted many fans around the globe. In
October, ESPN filmed
an episode of “Chopper Nation” featuring Von Dutch—the
history, the culture, and the bikes. It also showed the launch
of the new Giovanni Kustom Motorcycle at SEMA 2006. Look at still
images or view a short video preview.

Von Dutch custom
motorcycles also draw crowds of admirers at bike shows throughout
the United States. At the Third Annual Hot Bike Show, the Von
Dutch Kustom Booth decided to raise the bar as the center point
of the entire show. The booth display included a 50-foot bamboo
hut with the famous painted flying eye, a tattoo artist, and
a Tony the Pinstriper showcasing his work on women, children,
and anything available in the Von Dutch tradition. Twice a
day, tiki carving within the booth was announced by Polynesian
drums and dancing.
Even among all that action and excitement,
the center of attention was still on the bikes. Thirteen Von
Dutch Kustom Cycles and a ’56 Chevy Hot Rod anchored
the Kustom Kulture display created by Alex Mardikian and his
team.
Once the events are over, typically
the vendors pack up and take all of their art. However, once
in a while vendors have the opportunity to leave some art behind
for continued viewing pleasure long after the trucks have rolled
out.
Upon departure from Sturgis at the
Buffalo Chip in 2005, Von Dutch gifted the Buffalo Chip with
artwork performed on the wall beside their trailer. The artwork
was performed the night before departure, while surrounded
by the concert stage, concessions, and event attendees. This
piece inspired the Kustom Kulture Tour 2005/2006, which will
finish in Sturgis.
Finally, Von Dutch celebrity spokespeople
can be found at many events. One such guru of Kustom Kulture
and a Von Dutch aficionado is none other than Dee Snider—lead
singer of rock band Twisted Sister, actor and writer of Strangeland,
March of Dimes spokesperson, and radio personality. Dee put
in an appearance at the Third Annual Hot Bike Show and is also
seen on his favorite Von Dutch motorcycle, the one-of-a-kind “Flying
Dee-MON.” Dee represents Von Dutch Choppers, Bobbers,
Pro-Series, and Kustom motorcycles.
